artist statement:
Rabbit Armies in History - A legend
Lost in the annals of history, little is known about the battalions of rabbit soldiers that fought bravely in the campaigns of war. These warriors were prized for their trickster military tactics and use of cunning. As opposed to brutal force, the rabbits were known to outwit their enemies instead. Among these portraits is Pierre Baptiste, Sergeant Major in Napoleon's rabbit army, who bravely commanded the rabbit army's infantry during the War of the Fifth Coalition in 1809. Pictured here as well are two Civil war majors, cousins who were enlisted to opposing sides, a tragedy of closely drawn battle lines and conflicting political doctrines.
